Grape Selection
The best of the best of Douro.
The early 1980s were decisive in the strategic definition of the quality standards of Casa Ramos Pinto. José Ramos Pinto Rosas presented João Nicolau de Almeida with the challenge of studying and selecting the best grape varieties from about 70 Douro red grape varieties for winemaking.
This was the only scientific study conducted to date on Douro’s grape varieties and gave way to selecting those that best fit the Demarcated Region: Touriga Nacional, Aragonês, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão.
